Next, we'll head to the capital city of Morocco, Rabat, where you'll visit the iconic landmarks of Hassan Tower and Oudaya Kasbah. After exploring the city, we'll check you into your riad located in the Medina where you'll spend the night and enjoy a traditional Moroccan breakfast in the morning.
Following breakfast at your riad, your journey will take you from Meknes to Fes, with a stop at Volubilis, a Roman city with original mosaics, Roman roads, and a preserved city layout. Along the way, you will also pass by the Holy City of Moulay Idriss for a photo opportunity. In Meknes, you'll see the famous Bab Mansour gate, the Sahrij Souani Bassin, and the Mulay Ismail Mausoleum. After lunch, your journey will continue to Fes, where you will check into your riad in the Medina and spend the evening.
Enjoy breakfast at your riad before embarking on a 10-day explorative tour of the Medina as part of your Casablanca itinerary. Fes, the former capital of Morocco for over 350 years, holds many hidden treasures that are only known by its inhabitants. Your guided tour includes visits to Moulay Idriss mausoleum, the Nejjarine Fountains, and the Tanneries, as well as a stop at the University of Al Karaouine, the oldest operating university in the world. After lunch, you will have the chance to view the exterior of the Royal Palace and stroll through the famous Jewish quarter, the Mellah, where you can visit one of the few living synagogues in Morocco. Your tour also includes a visit to the renowned ceramic factory and a panoramic view over the entire Medina of Fes. In the afternoon, enjoy a drink in the new city before heading back to your riad for overnight accommodation.
After enjoying breakfast in your riad, you'll set off on an exciting journey towards the southeast, tracing the ancient caravan routes that led to Merzouga. As you travel through the rugged terrain, you'll catch glimpses of the stunning Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas mountains. Along the way, you'll stop at the Cedar forest, the largest forest in Morocco, and keep an eye out for the elusive Barbarian apes that inhabit the area. After lunch in Midelt, you'll continue your journey through vast stretches of open desert, with the landscape gradually transforming to reveal the unmistakable signs of the desert as you approach Er Rachidia. From there, you'll follow the lush greenery of the Ziz Valley and the Tafilalet date palm grove, famous for its high-quality dates and historical significance as the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, the reigning royal family of Morocco. Finally, you'll arrive at Merzouga in the late afternoon, where you'll be greeted with a refreshing glass of mint tea and check into your riad. Enjoy a half-board accommodation and get ready for more adventures in the coming days.
After enjoying breakfast at your riad, you will embark on an exciting journey to explore the area on this 10-day tour from Casablanca. One of the highlights of the trip will be visiting the Gnawa people, who were originally slaves brought from Sudan and experiencing their music and way of life. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to visit the traditional souk in Rissani, a historic town that served as the origin of the ruling family in Morocco and a meeting place for caravans trading as far as Tombuctou in Mali. Here, you will see many men wearing hoods and women in veils. After returning to the village of Merzouga for some rest, you will mount a camel in the afternoon, led by an experienced camel man, to explore the sand-sea of Merzouga.
