Itinerary
Day 1 - Marrakech / Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah / Agdez / Zagora Desert
Day 2 - Zagora Desert / Ouarzazate / Atlas Mountains / Marrakech
Embark on a private 2-day desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora by departing from your hotel, or by leaving early in the morning (around 08:00) from your riad to the Zagora Desert through the high Atlas Mountains Tizi Ntichka pass (altitude 2260 m). On the way, you will pass through several Berber villages, and there will be various stops to take in the scenery, snap some photos, have coffee or mint tea, use the restrooms, or stretch your legs with a short walk.
Upon arrival at Ait Benhaddou Village, enjoy a brief visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its kasbah and fortified village, which has previously served as the set for a famous Hollywood epic. Afterward, explore the village's kasbah with a local guide and have lunch in either Ait Benhadukasbah or Ouarzazate. The journey continues past the Anti-Atlas Mountains, the village of Agdez, famed for its convoys, and the Draa Valley, home to hundreds of thousands of palm trees and considered one of Morocco's largest palm plantations.
Arrive in Zagora in the late afternoon, where you can ride camels across the dunes to witness the breathtaking sunset. Afterward, ride your camels back to the Zagora Luxury Desert camp, and take advantage of its amenities for a magical night under the stars.
Upon completing the 2-day excursion through the Sahara desert from Marrakech to Zagora, the following day offers a chance to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, which creates striking shadows. Following a traditional Moroccan breakfast, the journey proceeds to Ouarzazate, where you can explore Taurirt Kasbah before lunch. The return journey to Marrakech involves traversing the main road while passing by several Berber villages situated along the river and the mountains. Along the way, you may encounter lush river valleys with a profusion of fruit trees, including olives, pomegranates, walnuts, apples, pears, and quinces. Berber women and children tend to their goats and sheep and climb the hills in search of firewood and fodder. The excursion concludes with an evening arrival in Marrakech and hotel drop-off, marking the end of the 2-day tour from Marrakech to the Zagora Desert.
